Martktech Wins in the Aerospace/Space Category for
”High Responsivity SWIR Photodetector in Compact, Low Profile Hermetic Ceramic-Metal SMD Package”
Latham, NY June 22, 2023 – Marktech Optoelectronics, today announces it has won the Aerospace/Space category of the 2023 Best of Sensors Awards for “ATLAS Hermetic SMD Packaged InGaAs Photodiodes”. The awards program is presented by Sensors Converge and Fierce Electronics and honors the best in sensor technologies and the sensor ecosystem, people and companies.
“It’s an honor to see our ‘ATLAS Hermetic SMD Packaged InGaAs Photodiodes’ winning the prestigious Aerospace/Space category of the Best of Sensors Awards 2023. We believe ATLAS packaged InGaAs detectors are an enabling technology, which will lead to new breakthroughs in aerospace, wearables, industrial automation, spectroscopy, optical communications, and medical diagnostics. This recognition reaffirms our unwavering commitment to engineering excellence, product innovation, and our dedication to pushing the boundaries of optoelectronic technologies. We aim to continue our mission to develop high-performance, reliable solutions that meet the evolving needs of the aerospace and space sectors. I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to the entire Marktech Optoelectronics team, whose passion and expertise made this recognition possible, and to Sensors Converge and Fierce Electronics for this acknowledgement of our contribution to the sensor ecosystem. ” – Gary Kardys, Business Development Manager, Marktech Optoelectronics.
ATLAS packaged InGaAs photodiodes combines two technology innovations:
- InGaAs/InP semiconductor innovation – The detector chips provide the highest responsivity on the market – to the best of our knowledge.
- Advanced photonic packaging innovation – The ATLAS package provides the hermetic protection of a TO-can in a surface mount device form factor – enabling high production runs of high integrity sensors.
The 1.7µm and 2.6µm extended InGaAs detectors from Marktech offer enhanced sensitivity and excellent linearity, making them perfect for spectroscopy, gas sensing, moisture analysis, optical pyrometers, and optical free space communication. In addition, the devices boast a high quantum efficiency and low dark current, ensuring optimal performance even in low-light conditions. These new detectors have an extremely wide sensitivity range. 1.7µm cutoff InGaAs detectors can sense visible, near-infrared (NIR), and short-wave infrared (SWIR) light or wavelengths from 600nm to 1700nm. 2.6µm cutoff InGaAs detectors can sense NIR to extended SWIR light or wavelengths from 800nm to 2600nm. The ability to detect light in the SWIR wavelengths has opened up new applications in medical diagnostics, food sorting, and chemical analysis. SWIR light also penetrates deeper into human tissue, which is helpful in medical diagnostics and wearables applications. The small footprint and shallow profile of Marktech’s ATLAS packaged InGaAs photodiode makes them compelling for wearable and point-of-care medical devices.
Charlene Soucy, Senior Director, Technology – Sensors & Electronics said, “The innovation this year surpassed other years with new, innovative technologies as well as technologists doing groundbreaking work in the field of design engineering. We congratulate the finalists and winners on their accomplishments.”
Submissions were judged based on the value to the marketplace, the impact of the problems it solves or issues it addresses and the uniqueness of the design. Award winners were announced on June 21 at Sensors Converge.
